Time to leave Camp Hale and its serenity.

LT, Steve & Doug on a sunny morning

Off and running.  After about 1/2 mile the course became a steep 2 mile uphill, which of course, the Old Goats hiked.

Joe Edgecombe and lots of runners spread out along the trail.

WOW! Love those gorgeous Colorado mountains.

This was the day of the long cold creek and blister mechanics working on my growing heel blister!

Michelle Barton is a BLURRRR at the finish!
No - you can't STOP HER!

LT is now OUR crew and is now reasonably rested after his grueling 100 mile trail race.  Leadville was Lambert's 7th 100 miler this year!

Anita Ortiz, female winner of this years Western States 100 mile race in June, innovates a new purpose for a mountain bike - a clothes dryer!

I got to the Red Cliff finish a good 5 minutes before Steve.  Lambert was there waiting.  Once Steve appeared, we both had to yell at him to scoot, so we could beat 4 hours!  We crossed together at 3:59:30, which was 16:43 faster than last year!  Our most improved time for the 2009 year!!

Transrockies Day 5  Thursday August 27th.  Red Cliff to Vail.

23.4 miles with 4,407' of climbs.  Our third 20+ mile day.
(SCREAMING LIME shirt day.)

This is the 1st day we didn't beat the "little piggies".  Fumie is the Asian 48 hour world record holder of 344 kilometers = 206 miles!

Erika Mastny and her best Transrockies bud Michelle.
Today we came across the finish line arm-in-arm with Team Kobuta.  Turned out that we were 1 minute and 3 seconds slower than last year's total of 6 hours and 42 minutes for this same stage.  Blame it on fun socializing!

Transrockies Day 6  Friday August 28th.   Vail to Beaver Creek and the end!

21.2 miles with 4,623' of climbs.  Our 4th 20+ mile day.

Doug, Juliette Morgan & LT celebrating the finish!

Whoo Hoo!

LT & Michelle went for a run and spotted a bear up on the trails!

LT just found heaven!
(the upper sign...)

Last year I really bonked on the final 1,400' climb up from Avon aid station near the 70 Interstate on up to the Beaver Creek Resort finish line.  This year I stomped up the 1,400' climb and never had to stop to rest once!  None of the young people behind me ever passed me either!  I had to wait for Steve for 13 minutes near the finish line.  Hanz & Andy of Team Blazing Rocking Chairs beat us on this stage by 3 minutes & 8 seconds, but our total time for all 6 stages was an hour faster than theirs.

Saturday morning
"GOODBYE
BEAVER CREEK RESORT"
 until 2010!
This note from Cindy Honebein really captures the spirit of the Transrockies race: I gotta tell ya - All the hugs & enthusiastic greetings amongst the returning runners made a huge impression on the new folks.  I heard several comments about that - "Wow! ...never participated in any kind of event like this!...like some kind of a family reunion...I'm hooked already & we haven't even started!"
